Cyrielle Sanchez - DANCING TO LOVE BETTER

Born in 1992 in Aubagne (Provence, France), she coloured her childhood with shows, disguises and humour. A lot of humour. And dance. She has been dancing since the age of two.

By Patrick Busquet,Author of Nos paroles façonnent le réel (L'Echappée Belle Editions)

Those around her described her as a "butterfly student". As a distracted child, her mother sometimes had to threaten to ban her from dance classes. Classical, tap, hip hop, street, salsa... the more Cyrielle Sanchez learns to dance, the better her school results. Between training courses and competitions, she obtained a BTS in customer relations negotiation in Mont-de-Marsan (Landes, France), while working for a magazine: Ze Mag. Then, here she is in Toulouse in a "hyperactivity sequence, running around doing different jobs and having her first professional experiences". She trained to become a jazz, contemporary and classical dancer for 3 years (Batsheva, Alvin Ailey, Coraline Lamaison, Corinne Lanselle, Samuel Mathieu...). She graduated from the James Carles Centre in 2015 and completed her studies with her first solo: a performance about femininity.

Trials and learning

She travels to New York and Los Angeles for training courses at the Alvin Ailey Center, Broadway Dance Center, Martha Graham Center and the Millennium Dance Complex among others. Her love of travel is blossoming. She returns to Toulouse for further training in choreographic cell with James Carles, Pedro Pauwels, Hofesh Shechter... and a Master Class with Fay Simpfons, Pierre Rigal, Marc Tompinks, Samuel Matthieu, Anne Lefèvre... It was then that she created A Toi, a solo on stage, with a metaphorical text: love, a cigarette.

At the end of 2016, she was recruited by Samuel Matthieu's company and then by Coraline Lamaison and Bouziane Bouteldja for a piece with Hip Hop dancers. The following year, she took classes in theatrical improvisation and singing. She was hired in a cabaret. She soon knew all the positions. A second cabaret recruited her as Dance Captain and choreographic assistant. Her life unfolds between Agen, Saintes, Toulouse and the Mediterranean coast in Spain.

As always, she transforms her travels into dance. In 2018, she works on trance, the sacred feminine, spirituality with Celine Agapé who writes a solo for her.

Bouncing and serving

Movement, travel again, experiences: she is an event coordinator for an agency, a dancer-choreographer-actor-singer for the Jean Ribul orchestra, regularly attends Master Classes with Jan Fabre. At the end of 2019, she is in Israel (Batsheva workshop), in London (Nicklas Milling workshop, Christin Olesen, Megan Westpfel, Ainsley Ricketts, Yukiko Masui...), in Montreal (audition at Cirque du Soleil, Cie Marchepied workshop), in Paris (Crazy Horse audition, PietraGalla workshop - Julien Derouault, Peeping Tom Cie, Rob Hayden...) And in a few months, the covidian pandemic modifies its trajectory. She worked as an extra in films and shot clips for artists. She created a special module for young people who wanted to become professional dancers while unlocking their emotions and expression through the body, and sang and wrote in a rock band.

Towards the authentic self

At a graduation ceremony, the master trainer saw her as "a young woman of contrasts [...] very committed to your dance, you are searching for a freedom that will make this mixture a fiery fire, flame, water, ice and tornado. A new road is emerging, you are pursuing your quest [...] for a true and authentic word". In the spring of 2020, she created ArtChange to confront "racism, sexual orientation discrimination or feminicide, abuse of power and violence..." The director of the International Dance Committee at UNESCO spotted the initiative: in May of that year, she became a member of the Committee: "Art can be entertaining," she says, "but it is also important to use it to encourage our world to change our way of thinking and our consideration for others [...] This can take shape if a collective consciousness is created and if everyone makes a contribution.

Freeing one's speech, one's emotions, discovering one's deepest identity: from her movement, from her art, from her demands and from her progress in mastery, she generates grace, humanity, tenderness. She paves her way. "My life? I'm going to pursue an international career, for example within a company. But I would also like to create a place of residence for artists. A place that is also my home, with a community woven by benevolence. A dream gave him the shape of this place.
